RIO+ POLICY PRACTICE BRIEF SERIES | NUMBER 2 | AUGUST 2014 Author: Layla Saad (Deputy Director of the RIO+ Centre) Civil society should have a multipronged approach that uses both formal and informal channels of influence in order to achieve desired results at the Lima Climate Change Conference (COP-20), which will take place in Lima, Peru on 1-2 December 2014. Nonetheless, such an approach is not easily achieved in practical terms, especially when agendas are unclear and even discordant, points out Layla Saad, deputy director of the RIO+Centre, in an article published in this Policy Practice Brief. The article is a result of a civil society organizing event Saad took part in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil on 1 – 2 August 2014. At the event, the representatives from the Brazilian civil society and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs discussed around the forthcoming Climate Summit in Lima.
