On May 4th, the UNDP World Centre for Sustainable Development (RIO+ Centre) will attend the Seminar “New Disciplines on International Trade”, co-organized by FUNAG, a foundation linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) responsible for the organization of debates and the dissemination of knowledge on Brazilian foreign policy and issues of today’s international agenda. Itamaraty’s Sub-secretariat general of Economics and Finance is the other co-organizer.
The purpose of the Seminar is to create a debate that will inform the Ministry to update or keep the Brazilian positions on several topics related to the current trade negotiations promoted by Mercosur with other actors.
The RIO+ Centre will participate in the last of the three round-table discussions on that day. The debate will focus on Sustainable Development and Trade Negotiations: the delicate balance between national interest, environment and protectionism.
The table will convene professionals and experts with different backgrounds and perspectives. Besides the RIO+ Centre, there will be representatives from the Brazilian Ministries of Environment, Agriculture, Labor, Treasury, and Itamaraty. As well as researchers from Brazilian Think Tanks.
The event will be held at the Itamaraty Palace, in Brasilia, from 3:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M.
