Avant première of ‘Baixada Never Gives Up’ in Rio de Janeiro

The pre-launch event of the documentary film ‘Baixada Never Gives Up’ in Rio’s neighbourhood of Urca,  brought together the media, diplomatic corps, Government officials and musicians from the Baixada region in a celebration with the United Nations Development Programme at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED Rio).

The avant première of the film was held on 9 May 2017 in collaboration with the Rio branch of the famous design school from Milan, Italy. In Rio de Janeiro, the Istituto Europeo de Design is located in Urca, where Rio’s famous Sugar Loaf is located.  IED Rio was established in 2013, in a modernist building that used to host the Urca Casino, the same place where Carmen Miranda made her debut show in 1929.

The film was inspired in UNDP RIO+ Centre’s pilot project with musicians and artists from Rio’s Baixada Region. Directed by Juliana Spinola (Brazil) and Christian Tragni (Italy), the 65-minute film showcases the story of musicians from Rio’s suburbs participating in the Open Group ‘BXD- Baixada Never Gives Up’.

Located in Cinelândia, the Odeon was established in 1926 and has been a key reference in Rio and Brazil’s cultural scene since then.  The event will be open to the public and free of charge.

The grand première event will also count with a Music Show, when 15 musicians from the Baixada will present 7 new songs dedicated to the themes related to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 2030 Agenda.
