Sustainable cities have their own standalone goal in the SDGs for a reason: they are also fundamental to the larger and more general achievement of sustainable development and of the 2030 Agenda. Cities and municipalities are key to improving the path of development. They are the level of government the closest to the people, and have largely been the engines of economic growth, cultural expansion and are also at the forefront of innovation on public policies, pushing through action on public health and the environment, often well before national governments.

For this reason, RIO+ Centre is dedicated to supporting local governments and citizens alike transform their communities into sustainable cities.
