Sustainable development isn’t only something that the United Nations or governments are responsible for achieving; it is also the role of citizens, civil society, and individuals alike to contribute to making our world a more sustainable place.

We witness citizens all over the globe taking this role seriously, leading the way for sustainable development, and signaling to their governments what type of world they want, if not accomplishing it on their own. This is being done not only on a local scale, where individuals are redesigning their own communities into healthier places, but also on the national and international level, where citizens are helping their governments in deciding what type of agreements should be made on the global stage.

The RIO+ Centre works to encourage and support citizens in initiating and generating change, and is more inspired than ever to see such heartening and refreshing actions being done by citizens to lead action towards sustainable development.
